US 'embarrassed' by security flaws exposed by alleged hacker Lauri Love

The US government is “embarrassed” about failing to secure its computer systems, according to the lawyer of a man accused of hacking offences.

Lauri Love, 31, from Stradishall, Suffolk, will find out later if he will be extradited to face trial in the US.

He is accused of hacking into the FBI, the US central bank and the country’s missile defence agency.

Mr Love’s US lawyer said the government was “taking [its] embarrassment out” on his client.

Tor Ekeland said the US authorities “had very, very bad security and these hacks utilised exploits that were publicly-known for months”.

Mr Love, who has Asperger’s syndrome, could face up to 99 years in prison if he is found guilty, his lawyers say.
